Author Topic: We're back, and it's time to drive those goblins out of... wait...  (Read 728 times)

As implied by my topic title, I've reclaimed a fortress lost to a goblin siege.  21 dwarves and about 40 war dogs show up, ready to kick the goblins out and take over again.  I'm expecting a bloody mess with several deaths.

So why are the goblins hanging out in my old fortress neither hidden, nor hostile?  They're all visible, all on the unit list, and all friendly.  I'm confused.

As long as I'm asking, other reclaim questions.

1) Does booze go bad?  If not, why is it gone?  I don't mind the friendly gobbos drinking my wine, but they could have had the decency to leave the empty barrels when they were done.
2) Is there a reason every item in the fortress has been scattered to the four winds, except for stones?
3) Does furniture ever get moved/deconstucted?  If so, do I ever need to worry about the floodgates between a magma reservoir and a mine tunnel?  I do seem to have a door missing, and as there were no trolls, I can only assume it didn't happen during the siege when I was looking elsewhere, but I can't find any other damage either.

And a thought.  Dwarf-powered fans.  Something akin to screw pumps that can clear miasma out of the tunnels more quickly.

I can only answer to 2:
Everything gets scattered, but heavy stuff is not transported as far as lighter things. Thus lead bins are your friend.

Hello!

Interesting. I can only assume that the goblin's behavior is based on the general "resident" behavior: If you settle under a goblin tower, human town, or elven forest retreat, its citizens will be friendly, regardless of their civ's basic outlook on you. Somehow, the game has probably considered your abandoned fortress the equivalent to a goblin tower and thus handled it accordingly - I think.

1) I think that alcohol actually does "go bad" by simply disappearing, leaving the empty barrel. I have seen it disappear a few times with no other explanation possible (I was lagging behind in creating a proper food stockpile).

The absence of the barrels, however, would rather point to it being scattered about somewhere you haven't noticed. Or maybe it got dumped into the magma by the scattering?

2) As was said before, that is normal, and if you look around the forums, you will find several discussions about this, including experiments and experiences about what happens and what doesn't happen.

Oh, I have a question about food spoiling too - does lye ever disappear, and do prepared meals ever rot? Like if you locked some prepared meals in a food stockpile in a room for 10 years would they still be edible?
