Dwarfs refuse to do work when work is given.
« on: February 11, 2009, 08:40:20 pm »

It's baffling me, I can't seem to get my dwarfs to do work, even if work is obviously available. All of my dwarfs are content and don't seem to be stuck or between jobs. I'm curious if this is a bug.

Need a little more information.  What kind of work is it that they're not doing?  Did you forbid any of your workshops or materials by accident?  Are the appropriate labors enabled for the dwarves?

The dwarf is a miner, nothing is forbidden, and mining is enabled for him.

EDIT: I want to state that before this, he was mining fine and dandy. It was only recent it's happened.

hit the v key.  Is the area designated for mining accessible?

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

hit the v key.

Yeah, 'v' over him and then hit 'i' for the inventory tab.  You may need to scroll up or down to find the pick.

I guess this explains why. How do I equip him with a pick?

Well, you double-check that he has the Mining labor turned on and then check the Stocks screen to figure out what happened to the pick he HAD (check under "weapons") and if it's just disappeared without a trace, make a new one at a forge.

Ok, I found it. Seems I lost it somehow when I sent him to kill a Kobold. :V

Some versions had a bug where weapons are forbidden if you hit someone with it, then lose your grip, even if you get it back.  You may need to unforbid the item (may need to go into the item's properties first by pressing enter, dunno)
