Custom Character Sets appearing Blank in 40d but not 40d9

I'm not entirely sure what the problem could be here. I used the same init settings and character sets for the older versions and 40d, but in 40d they simply won't show up. The 3 sets that come with the game work fine. The only difference I could see between the default ones and the new ones was that some were 255 254 255 for white instead of 255 255 255, but even after changing that it still doesn't work. Changing them to .bmp didn't work either. I tried a bunch of different ones from the user character sets list on the wiki, including my own which I still had saved on my hard drive.

They all show up just fine in 40d9. Same init.txt.

Init.txt defines the extension of the file, too. From .40d1 and up AFAIK DF only reads .png tilesets. If you download a tileset from the wiki, it'll be .png, and will work with .40d9, but you need a .bmp for .40d, with the appropriate file extension included in the Init.txt.

AFAIK, DF40d2+ can handle .bmps as well as .pngs. (40d1 is technically the version referred to as 40d). I know they worked in 40d2.

How did you change them to .bmp? You didn't just alter the extension, did you?
