question about vermin

will live picked up vermin die eventually? because i just found a toad and i'm thinking of keeping it as a pet and going along with its plan of burning down an elven retreat.

With no max age, toads should live forever. However, if it is not tamed it is eligible as a meal for any passing dwarf.

Check the forum. No, your dude won't accidentally eat your precious frog.  Nor will peasants bum rush you to eat it. So that frog will most likely outlast you.

 There fire snakes that have lives in the sarcophagus of the champion of Speargroove for many, many years now. I don't think they can die short of being eaten or cat-swatted.

 Other than the usual chasming and atom smashing, of course.
