Masons will not put up corner walls in certain situations?
« on: February 01, 2009, 11:58:26 am »

So I was building a wall in a room, and it looks like this
-------
-wwww-
-w++w-
-S++w-
D+++w-
-S++w-
-w++w-
-wwww-
--------
w = wall
- = rock/dirt walls
D = door
S = statue
+ = floor

however, my Mason set it up like
-------
-owwo-
-w++w-
-S++w-
D+++w-
-S++w-
-w++w-
-owwo-
--------

where o = "To be constructed" Wall, and the mason would be listed as having no job to do, so the walls stayed incomplete until i tore down the wall and built the corners first

Yup.  You can't build diagonally and the dwarves got to the other ones first.

Yup.  You can't build diagonally and the dwarves got to the other ones first.
It's odd how they don't announce a job cancelation though.

Hello!

As for the lack of the cancellation announcement, the way they behave in these situations makes me believe that the build wall task is somehow kept separate on standby - whenever I mess up things like this, as soon as the wall gets reachable, a dwarf will walk there and finish the job...

In a somewhat similar situation, I had a dwarf trapped after placing a wall. I actually noticed because I got a job cancellation for a floor tile in the vicinity:
Code: [Select]
.OD+++
>???!?

. empty space
O (constructed wall)
D Dwarf
+ Floor
> stairway down to the rest of the world.
? Floor to be built
! Floor which got suspended

Since the dwarf would be free once someone built the floor next to the column, I decided to simply wait.

So, I waited, and waited, ... and nothing happened. Finally, I removed the column and once it was gone, they built the floor tiles...

All the floortiles to be built were designated in one designation, and it seems that the game insisted on building them in a certain order, stopping construction while it was impossible.

Dwarves can't build walls diagonaly but when I have them building floors they always try to stand on the NE tile next to the floor they are construcing. Weird.

You need a place to put your bricks and mortar.

you cannot put it on wall-space: obstructs construction, nor on dwarf...
