[40d] Companions did not help me pillage
« on: January 13, 2009, 09:38:51 pm »

So, I gathered a bunch of companions to storm a town. I started out by killing the leader, leading about three or four of them to turn on me (this was expected, as I had hired them from that town before I'd decided to attack it). My companions did me the extremely helpful service of standing around and watching me slaughter humans left and right without so much as offering moral support. I took a few bolts and wound up crawling away prone. Interestingly enough, one or two of the guards from the town's keep apparently helped me out against the town's citizens for some reason. I guess I hadn't offended their entity. I later learned in Legends mode that my companions who turned on me for killing the leader of their entity had their bodies put on pikes, even though they were basically faithful to the town.

The only guess I have as to why this happened is that since I'd hired most of them from a different nation where I'd never settled nor accepted quests, no enemy status was set between them and the entity of the town.

I hope this isn't something already known, but it didn't seem to turn up on forum search or under the tags [adventure mode][combat] on the bug list.

Sometimes you succeed in your goals and sometimes you and everyone around you is murdered by a gigantic spider.

C'est la vie

I'm walking crawling across the continent looking for a crutch. Story shortened, horse ate my foot.

Yeah, once me and my mighty warband, after slaughtering an innocent Goblin Fortress, came back to some crapola town to drink some mead. Upon entering the inn, however, some mook attacks me and when I hack his head off, about half of my comrades pile on top of me. The other half starts fighting them and killing until they run outside and start massacring farmers and shopkeepers. When I'm done finishing the guy inside off, I walk outside to hear the sound of the town militia fighting back. Before I could lift an axe, my throat was shot through with a crossbow bolt, as would later happen to my loyal comrades.

I think I might have done something bad to some of my comrade's nation while we were out. But if they decided to attack me in the village, why not while we were genociding goblins?

Because you didnt offend your comrade's nation until you lopped off the head of that "mook".  While you were out, you might have offended that lone man by killing a religious figure or something.  Killing him triggered an angry response from that nation.  Your going to have to wait for self defence to be proporly recognized for adventurers, or just deal with those flukes.
