How do I see theworth of an artifact. I have one in my current fortress, a stupid barrel. I have looked, but I cant find anything but the weight and whats in it.

I believe you need yourself an appraiser in order to assess the value of artifacts. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, though.

The broker has to have at least novice skill in appraisal.  The broker will train appraisal when trading with a caravan.
