Hey i was wondering if anyone has a cool mod i can use to build with obsidian. I never liked the idea of having to mine out the layers below my fortress to expand above knowing that i would eventually run out.

I checked that out, i just wanna build, not accidentally make a obsidian bed or obsidian ashes 'cause that would take too much of the chellenge out.

so I am confused. What are you wanting? a way to get free obsidian without mining it?

No i make obsidian with my maga-water mixer, i just wanna make buildings with it.

So why can't you just mine out the raw stone and build with that?

Just a thought, you might have obsidian still set to an economic stone, then you just have to go to 'z', stones and disable obsidian as an economic stone.

I agree with Roy, that the crafty Toady works in mysterious ways, and recently set obsidian's default setting as economic, thus making it oddly useless...untill changed

However, this revelation pushes this topic right out of the modding category

Be sure to carve the obsidian into blocks before building with it. It not only adds a lot of value to your fortress, but also trains up your masons.

Also, obsidian short swords (made at the craftsdwarves' workshop) are as strong as steel.

Don't get too attached to them, though; I sense an obsidian-sword-breaks-easily mechanic in the "near" future.
