40d9_win Dwarves suddenly stop working or moving. Period.

I should have looked harder through the forum to see if this is a repeat, but in my most recent game I noticed that around the third year after the human caravan arrived nearly half my dwarves just stopped moving (around 20). They just stand there being depressed with no job, some still holding the items they were hauling. The only way to move them is to activate them, but as soon as you deactivate them they return back to their original position, or to their bedrooms.

Is there a work around for this?

===========================================

Also I noticed that when I leave my soldiers off duty they train, but that one of them automatically becomes elite. I thought this was only supposed to happen if they were on the Fortress Guard, not when being normal soldiers. Is it a feature? I haven't tested to see if this happens to all my recruits or just the first one, but it seems contrary to what is written on the wiki. Also the training period seems way too low to have reached elite status (compared to when I was actually trying).

===========================================

Also final error report. Dwarven Fortress is exceeding parameters and overtaking parts of my life not allocated to Dwarven Fortress. Were this to continue it could lead to a critical error, possibly resulting in me ruining my life.

Do the soldiers become elite wrestlers? Wrestling is currently bugged and so one's dwarves gain a bajillion XP from a single sparring session sometimes.

Come on... It's not THAT bugged. Also, it is completely normal that your wrestler become elites and they will be champions in no time.

About your dwarves, are they striken by melancholy?

Have you ordered dwarves to stay indoors? It's been my experience that if you don't have a meeting area set indoors this will cause the dwarves to just stop on the spot, though I'm not sure if they will return to the spot like you described or not.

Good news everyone. Yes, apparently I had ordered them to go inside although I can't imagine why. That fixed the issue.
