Transporting captured animals and enemies
« on: January 24, 2009, 04:54:32 am »

I've been having a lot of trouble with this. I captured two goblins in the last attack, and I captured some troglodytes from the chasm. However, it seems like moving them at all is just an instant recipe for escape. I can't seem to figure out how to keep them subdued while I transport them around. Any tips?

In the "which cage to move thing", there's a key you use called "more" or "extra" or something, and it extends a list of cages with creatures inside.

I've gotten that far, but it seems like whenever I move the cage itself (not the creature), it always escapes or something weird like that.

You're trying to sell them aren't you? Doesn't work I'm afraid

As for regular transport and pitting, only thieves and babysnatchers can escape

I've decided to simply contain my troglodytes in some kind of arena backroom, where I'm hoping that they can breed (I captured a male and some females). I want to let any captured goblins meet them :)

I have the same problem, I can catch goblins, and move them to an animal stockpile, but then when I try to pit them into my arena, the dwarf on the job seems to pick the cage up right over their head, setting them free.

I've been trying to cram a bunch of wild animals into a single cage. Problem is, as soon as the idiot dwarves open their cage and grabs said creature, he goes "OH CRAP A WILD ANIMAL" and drops it. Which then lets the thing run amok and kill people.

I can't tame the critters yet, either. So I'm kinda stuck. I could just build all their cages in a room, but I'm trying to build more of a 'zoo' with each cage having a specific species in it, not 219582390571209 cages with 1 critter each.

Build the cages directly next to each other. If the dwarf doesn't need to drag the animal out of his initial square, he should do it. For instance, if you want to pit goblins in mass, you need to build their cages right next to the pit, then order them to be pitted.
