More support for modding flavour.
« on: January 10, 2009, 10:17:45 am »

These are just two suggestions one easy and one that probably wont be implemented till way down the line.

1. Seperate the artifact and martial trances into two tags for those who want one or the other.

2. Non hardcoded NPC settlements. It'd add a lot more flavour to new and modded races if they didnt have to borrow their settlement type from one of the existing races. Now i admit setting this up is gonna be kind of daunting to do. At the very least a way of making prefab construction plans to be plopped down would be useful, maybe some sort of multilayer dwarf fortress paint program where you could set floors, walls, furniture and places for various site proffessions to stand and if they're present or not in this type of settlement. Though that'd just allow substitution using the town grid layout. Some way of handling different layouts and handling underground sites would round this system out greatly. Though i understand Toady has many many higher priorities and likely this idea will rate on par with magic as to how likely it is to be implemented soon.

Is there actually any evidence that [ TRANCES] allows strange moods?  I thought moods were hardcoded.

I thought trances were linked to strange moods cause the Wiki says so. If anyone has evidence to the contrary i'd like to see it as that'd be most helpful.

I would really like to see non hardcoded NPC settlements, I don't know if Toady has mentioned it but it certainly makes sense to have it in the raws, as you say though it could be quite complex.

Then again I would like to see better default settlements as well, it would make adventuring far more interesting if you found walled cities and wooden forts atop hills etc.
