A great starting save game
« on: January 09, 2009, 08:53:01 am »

Hello, I figured I would share this with you as it is the best map I have ever had the luck of landing on.  I still haven't got the hang of the new map creating system, so rather than take down the wrong seed info, I just saved the game with my normal starting build.  Here are the details:

Version: 40d
Map Size: 4x4

Features (spoilers):

- Extesive Silt layer for underground farming, workshop rooms, etc.  and over ground farming as well
- Very little above ground elevation variance (5 levels from high point to low)
- River in the lower right corner
- Extensive amounts of Obsidian, Copper, tin, Iron, Lignite, Flux, Silver, Gold, Platinuim and gemstones.
- Magma Tube
- An HFS so there is adamantine, and a serious on map challenge.
- A very fun evil civilization that will start attacking after you get rich (it is a mix of humans and goblins)
- Trade with every good race
- The world map was set to start checking for 20% legendary beasts at year 1, so there are a good number of them still alive.
- Tropical climate

The only thing the map is lacking are the other fun features (caves, etc.), and sand.

My Build (you may not like it, but I find it useful):

Dwarves: 1 trader/leader (negotiate, appraise, judge), 1 cook/brewer, 1 farmer, 4 novice miners.

Starting equipment (from memory)
5 picks
1 anvil
1 Axe (though someone needs to be set to wood cutting job.. oops)
80 Turtles
80 Alcohol
15 Plump Helmets
40 Plump Helmet spawn
1 cat
2 war dogs

And that's it, I think.

Some things that I screwed up:  I gave the trader novice fishing for some reason, so you may want to turn that off before you unpause, or he will run off to fish too early.  You could easily just make him the woodcutter and fix my other flub (no wood cutter) in one fell swoop.

Any purchases you would have made you can cover for with the caravans as you can get absurdly rich early on with the easy access platinum (in the silt, of all places!).

Here is the save.  Enjoy!!

Some spoilers... don't read if further you don't want to know where hidden stuff is!!!

- The Magma is a level below the silt.  The tube is slightly north west of the center of the map

- The HFS is close to the magma pipe, down several levels and a slightly south east of the center of the map.
