You're completely right, I think, except you forgot to mention that bones, shells, and skulls will never generate miasma (although any left outside will disappear once in a while. Might be at the beginning of every season?).

When things rot outside they produce fly swarms instead of miasma if I remember correctly.

Flies that aren't nearly as purple and obvious as miasma, yes.
