New Weapons available in DF mode?

I was thinking about something earlier.
I found the thought rather interesting to add a new type of weaponry into the game, whose effectivity is far better than crossbows, but it is more complicated to construct.

Is it possible to add new constructable items with multiple components in workshops or only in a smelter? Would it be possible to, somehow, squeeze Rifles into the crossbow section?

Well, i guess not. Maybe future versions might include more softcoded material.

For now it takes 1 material and gives you 1 item. You can make complicated reactions in smelter but it will negate quality (all items from smelter come out at "basic" quality).

Well, if its significantly better then a crossbow, then the lack of quality wouldn't matter so much.

Anything it can be better in is just a melee damage.

For ranged weapons the quality supposedly only affects damage when used as a melee weapon (although I have my suspicions that it affects accuracy too).  So yes, it should work out.

There's no accuracy parameter at all so I think it's hardcoded and binded to the skill.
