Yeah if you have a male and female they will breed. Just make sure that they aren't caged. Also megabeasts won't breed [they will breed in the future, Toady is fixing this AFAIK]

when you get male and female exotic pets together do they breed?

If they have the appropriate tags which can be added if they don't. Also, I think you need the dungeon master on the map to enable exotic breeding

In cold regions they usually arrive dead however

if you want a mega project make a wall of walls everyother zlevel all the way to the top and then build cage traps in the non wall levels. even with random you can chase stuff or have it chase you and eventualy it will get caught. did this on 1 zlevel once and just recruited someone to chase the wild animals around.
