40d5 - Artifact didn't match materials - slight mods

Before I forget to list them, the mods I made - took out aquifers, removed non armor goblin clothes, and I had the quicker smelting raw I posted in the modding forum.

My dwarf took over a magma smelter, gathered leather and aluminium, and then proceded to make a Giant Toad Bone Hatch worth 1800. I can't remember what, if anything they gained experience in.

Once his mood had been announced I did forbid a lot of materials to force him to choose more valuable stuff, including some bones. But I don't have any Giant Toad bones. Once I get home I can provide more details if required.

I also seem to be getting a lot of smelter moods, at least 3/5 moods have been at the magma smelter, either I am getting an odd run of luck, or the new reactions I made have made things weird.

It couldn't find the material it was supposed to be so it grabbed the first one in the raws (bone) and the first creature type to match (toad).

Search for "toad bone" on the bug forum, you'll find another thread or two.

In case this wasn't clear -- it couldn't find it because you forbade it.  Be careful with that.

Probably a reminder to not make mods that make game too easy   ;D

Wait, wait, hold on.

He said it was GIANT Toad bones, not normal toad bones. Although the names are similar, the giant toad is a completely different creature, and far from the first creature on the raw list.

I think this is some other problem. Or the OP was hallucinating. Not sure.

the source code might have changed, or it may be related bug.
