Quick, Easy succession question
« on: December 29, 2008, 08:16:41 pm »

So, me and a few other DF noobs are trying to do a succession game, and I have the region file from /save/ copied into my own DF, but when I start up it just asks if I want to create a new world. I couldn't find this on the FAQs or using the search engine, so I apologize if it's been asked to death...but how should we send each other the save games via email, as zipping the region folder and sending it didn't work?  (Or is there something else I need to do on my end)

Thanks,

Alex

Make sure you have the whole region folder copied not just world.sav, if that's not the problem then it probably has something to do with the region folder being inside another folder like: save/succession game/region1, it only wokrs like this: save/region1.

Well, the files are indeed unrar'd.  The path to the save game is C:\df2\data\save\region1 (I made a seperate, copied install of my main DF so I could malarky around with the saves without possibly affecting my own fortress).

I also tried creating a second region from scratch, which generated a \region3 folder. I then deleted its contents, and pasted the contents from \region1 into \region3, and tried "continue playing." It says no active games.

Anything else I might try?

Re-installing dwarf fortress made it work for some reason.  ??? I have no idea why, but thanks for all the troubleshooting help.
