[40d4]Keyboard / input problem ? (fixed in 40d5)
« on: December 29, 2008, 12:08:05 pm »

Hello,

I tried 40d4 on WindowsXP and was not able to play.

Everything seemed ok until I started investigating what was on the upper levels, I was then unable to get down again.

So i went to the key bindings to check and the keys for up/down were < > as expected.
However to check i re-assigned the keys through "k" and when I press ">" on my keyboard, DF sees a ","
I have a Swiss-French keyboard, but never had a problem with older versions.

Furthermore I had DF crash three times as I was trying to setup the keys correctly.

Dwarf Fortress.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.
AppName: dwarf fortress.exe    AppVer: 0.0.0.0    ModName: msvcr90.dll
ModVer: 9.0.21022.8    Offset: 0006c955

edit : looks like the problem is fixed in 40d5.

I just signed up to post on this very issue, didn't notice that it had already been submitted and posted my own report. It seems that any key press at all will change the Z level once the bug starts.

I'm using an American keyboard, and am currently using Windows Vista.

Edit: Further investigation reveals that the bug only occurs if the < or > buttons are released after releasing the shift button after Z-level change, and can be temporarily fixed by attempting to change the Z level and releasing the < or > key before releasing the Shift key.
