Playing DF on a laptop without a numpad...
« on: December 28, 2008, 10:23:49 pm »

I made the changes the wiki suggests to the keybinds, but my + and - keys still don't work in menus. For example, I can't assign skills to my dwarves when embarking. I assume I'm not the first one to have the problem, but the wiki doesn't seem to help much.

You should have a "Fn" key on your keyboard that lets you use the right part of your keyboard as a numpad. i got numpad +/- on "?" and ";" on my laptop.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I re'ersed what the wiki suggested, and that's how I use the (normal, number row) -/+

Oh, btw- don't use shift on plus. It'd be "SHIFT+PLUS" then.

I can't stand trying to use a numberpad on a laptop because it tends to cover up a few keys that I'd like to use in game.  I go into the keybindings screen and changes those to ' / < > or , . .  Those keys tend to be out of the way and its really easy to hit shift and the arrow keys.
