[40D] Underwater Towercap

I found an underground river, all is good, I make a few channels for wells, defences and so on, 7/7 deep running water. Naturally, the tiles the water is flowing across become muddy, but, oddly enough, even while fully underwater shrubs will grow on it (and die almost instantly) but not tower caps. They grow to full 'cut me down for wood' size and if it's just a one tile wide channel, block it and stop the flow of water.
