Pumping from a river and Trade Depot questions
« on: December 21, 2008, 06:55:13 am »

Is there a way to make a resevoir that is fed by a river, but doesn't decide to overflow everything? or do I have to find a stationary water source to do that?

There are two ways.

First, screw pumps reset the pressure of the water they pump out to zero, so you can use a powered screw pump, immersed in water, to pump water through a wall at the highest level of the reservoir.

Second, you can use pressure plates to automatically open or close hatches or floodgates to let water in or out to prevent flooding.

I'll try the pressure plate idea, that should work.

Now, I build a Trade Depot a few levels up my tower, with ramps and everything so that the wagon can get to it. However, when I check accessability, the Depot itself is marked in yellow, even though there is a clear path to it. What gives?

i had this problem too the first thing you check is that all your ramps are connected to a wall, you can build ramps on top of these walls but you still need the ramps to be connected to a wall or they wont work so
z1     z2 (ramps go on walls from now till top and are connected to walls
WR    WR
WR    WR
WR    WR

If you describe us exactly how it's made (e.g. draw it for more simplicity), we could probably tell you what is wrong.

Although I am not sure if wagons can be on three separate z-layers (never tried it), so that may be the problem.

You may need a channel on the far side of the ramps at the top like this:

Code: [Select]
Upper
FRC
FRC
FRC
Lower
WRF
WRF
WRF

Where F = floor, R = ramp top and bottom, C = channeled out floor, and W = wall.
