odd timing
« on: December 14, 2008, 01:31:02 pm »

we all know that creatures, dwarfs included, can give birth mid battle.
however, there are other mis-timed events.

like, one migrant took five steps into the map and went fey. he hadn't even joined society, and he withdrew from it!

or, pathing to a task, then stepping into lava that apears AFTER the pathing event.

maybe even fighting a SoF, and then realizing, "hey, i'm thirsty", then running off for the fortress to burn down.

any other mis-timed events?

"Do do do, ah I'm sure my pet dwarf would enjoy that I drop my catch on to his workshop!"

"Hm, so I just... AAARRRGGGHHH! That's it! I can't work with this small rat corpse near this workshop! I have suspended the construction of the mason workshop!"

One of my original seven, a pretty skilled mason, has spent every year since the first lying in bed slowly recovering from three yellow wounds. The liaison is still hovering over him.  ::)

Marksmen to the tower and prepare to fire! Wrestlers on the other side of the front gate!
We'll sh-

I have had a very odd string of coincidences in my most recent freezing fort.  People, mostly planters, keep freezing to death in their own bedrooms-deep underground, where it's warm.  Now recently, one guy freezes to death while the woodworker who lives just across the hall from him sees him die.  The guy who died was one of the woodworker's only three friends, and the woodworker has four grudges.  I look at his profile and it goes something like this:

Urist has been unhappy recently.  He has witnessed death recently.  He has lost a friend to tragedy lately.  He was forced to talk to someone annoying recently.  He has been annoyed by flies lately.

Since I hadn't had any tombs constructed yet, he got even angrier when he "endured the decay of a friend recently."  A little while later, he throws a tantrum, hurts someone, and the a gaurd goes to the food stockpile to get a barrel to beat him with  ??? .  Then he has another tantrum, this time getting killed.  While this is all going on, the recent string of mysterious deaths is causing a tantrum spiral.  And yes, I do have a legendary dining hall.  It's not helping much.

The fact that my best cooks and brewers have died recently can't be helping, either.

And this is how tinned food was invented.
