Bear in mind that mercury is 13.5 times as heavy as water. You'd need an insane amount of pressure to actually give it high upward velocity.

A column of mercury would probably be a good way to provide that pressure, yes?  And screw pumps work as well for moving mercury upward as they do for moving water.

Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

I don't think a column of mercury would provide anything better for mercury than a column of water would for water. Perhaps it wouldn't work very well at all, but I don't know because I really suck at fluid dynamics.

It would also have to be one really bitchin' column of mercury.

Some people believed that eating Mercury can bring you immortality!

Lets work with that!

This is "Hermetic" knowledge iirc this means Alchemical. Mercury in this case was the base of the Philosophers stone and had to go throught 4 stages (Blacking, Whiteing, Reding and Golding).

Mercury as base for alchemics is thought an nice idea. Its rare and dangerous enought so makeing magical or Alchemical "Stuff" out it is an nice idea. hmm maybe the game shouldnt grant immortality to mortals per se so i would go more in the direction of the youthspring.

Well Mercury COULD be used for alchemical compounds that could lengthen lifespan by a certain length. (lets say 50% or 100 years)

Only Strange moods should grant objects of immortality or rare exceptions.
