Non-aggressive hippos
« on: December 17, 2006, 07:39:00 pm »

Aren't hippos responsible for more deaths in Africa that any other animal? These DF hippos kind of just run at the sight of dwarves like pussies. I think they should be a whole lot meaner than that.

Okay, so as I was typing this a hippo mangled one of my wood cutters, but still, it took them long enough.

Now thats ironic!   :D

If you want to make the hippos meaner, make them more evil in the raws or give them a sight boost.

Or just give them the ability to breathe fire.

I'm not positive, but I believe its the "[LARGE_PREDATOR]" tag that causes animals to chase dwarves (as opposed to avoid them, usually).

Lemese...  doing a source search, LARGE_PREDATOR affects:

  • whether or not they ambush in adv mode

  • their frequency vs. the savagery of maps

  • whether or not you can have multiple groups of them on the map

  • they are candidates for mention in the intro paragraph

  • whether or not they attack in adventure mode ([BENIGN] controls this in dwarf mode)

  • your adv mode party members won't attack regular non-undead non-large-predators
