Third Option on Trade Screen: "Allow Anyone With R
« on: December 27, 2007, 03:41:00 pm »

Right now, if your broker refuses to trade because he is too busy picking his nose, the only other option is to allow every dwarf to come to the depot.

I think it would be nice if, after having the "every dwarf" option turned on for a couple of years (thereby creating a few dabblers), you can narrow it down to dwarves who have done it before.  That way, even if your expert trader doesn't come, you can be guaranteed to have someone who at least knows how to see prices.

The game already tracks whether each dwarf has a relevant trading skill for when you're choosing new nobles.  This might be a good place to put that knowledge to use.

The intruder arose, casting off its black cloak.  "Behold, stunted jesters!  It is I, Scuro!"  A jagged scar marked the goblin's face from eye to chin, his greasy mane gray and wild, and about his neck was the broken silver amulet, strapped together by a leather band.

turn off all your broker's jobs, then [r] him at the depot twice. it'll create a new job for him at the top of the queue, and if he's not doing something already (no job) or in a meeting, then he'll immediately go to trade. always worked for me.

My broker is my hunter.  It's obnoxious to make him drop everything he owns just to get him to go to the Depot.  Trading should be a higher priority level than normal jobs since it's time sensitive.  Butchery and tanning should also be on that same level IMO since their stuff rots.

My broker is either a) asleep; b) on break; or c)too goddamn busy to trade at the depot.

Ugh, I hate this.  Why is it that three times I year I have to hunt down my broker, hit *[enter]*****[enter]*[enter]***[enter]*[enter]**[enter]*[enter], and then go through the whole rigamarole again as soon as the caravan leaves?  As it stands, either I have to micromanage the broker until I want to gouge my own eyes out, or I have a broker who is useless 75% of the time.

Trading really needs to be higher priority than, say, fishing, which apparently every dwarf will interrupt ANYTHING ELSE to do even after they have driven the local fish species to extinction.

Besides, I like having backup people with noble skills.  Noble skills are hard to train, and I like having more opportunities to do it.  If I lose my broker for whatever reason, it's good to know that someone else has a bit of appraisal.
