As for more generic names, I think we'd best avoid names with strong similarities to existing metals (like tutanium, stiel, mithral or cupper...) to avoid misunderstandings.

I second mickel in that we should rule out, for clarity purposes, anything that starts with "mith-".

My suggestion for the name is meladelamite   made up of "mela" meaning savior and "adela" meaning wonder, or the saviours wonder whoever their god is they are thankfull so they can defend themselves.  What yopu guys think?

Lacking a true grasp on DF-elvish (not that my other elvish is much better, tbh), I couldn't say for certain, but it seems like a pleasing and plausible suggestion.

Now all we need to is start lobbying Toady to get it in :P

Meladelamite sounds silly to me. If anything I don't think it should have an English ending mixed with elvish, tho I suppose "meladela" would work. I do like "çwinire" very much. Or we could go with the rest of the metals and take the name directly from English, say "elvish steel," "hardened sap," or "steel-sap", no translation needed.

No offence meant, just my 2 cents.

I'm behind "ambersteel". Might sound good in Elvish too. Dwarves might be a bit hesitant to call it steel though.  ;)

Ambersteel sounds good to me.  :) As for whether Toady will even put something like this in the game...

*reads thread* Fahhh. No fair. You guys get out of my head. Trees and plants concentrating metal is -my- idea from way back, and I use it in some of my story settings.  :p Oh well, can't keep all good ideas.

Having resins from different plants would be neat, anyway. Dwarves could make vulcanized rubber mechanisms and such, and there could be concentrated urushiol traps (the stuff in poison oak/ivy/sumac). But I think most people underestimate wood for weaponry. Clubs might not be elegant, but they can be just as deadly as any sword, if not more so. Armor is a bit of a stretch, but yew or hickory scalemail would probably be just as effective as metal in deflecting some types of blows, especially if the elves can alter the grain of wood as it grows.

I can just imagine the world generator producing "The Everlasting Mountains of Snot" or naming a world "The Beautiful Universe of Snot."
