A quick UI suggestion.
« on: December 13, 2006, 10:20:00 pm »

Hey!!  Just throwing this one out there for review...

Could we get a shortcut from (U)nit List to a unit's (L)abor screen?  or even a labor sidebar?  Just asking cuz I'm a control freak and setting and tweaking my dwarves job lists is a very time consuming process atm.  A simple jump from Unit List to Labor would streamline things immensely.

Ideally I'd like to see a side-bar in (U)nit List...

Ex:  Dwarf Name, Current Job,  Available Jobs)

Thanks for working on this wonderful game!!!

I'd like to be able to jump back to the (U)nit list from the (L)abor list. Ideally this would also highlight the dwarf I was tweaking the labor settings of, rather than always highlighting the dwarf at the top of the (U) list.

My opinion:
If you got to a dwarf via the nit screen, pressing space and exiting [v]iew mode should take you BACK to the unit screen.

For the last, so you'd need to remember which mode you were in?  A lot of times you want to continue playing after zooming to a dwarf.  There are a lot of interface issues like this, where you can end up nesting strangely if too much information persists.  Coming up with an overall workable interface for the game is difficult, and certainly hasn't been attempted yet...

I would certainly appreciate a view, at least, doesn't have to be a control location, for all labors set. I tend to be sloppy in the assignment process, but I also experience labor waves--e.g. I'd like to be able to see how many dwarves I potentially have for, say, a butcher round. As for now, I cannot find who has butcher labor set, other than keeping score on a paper sheet :P
