Plotting Regicide
« on: December 06, 2008, 04:10:39 pm »

Are there any consequences to killing off nobles?  Specifically, I'd like to get rid of the duke and his consort and their annoying mandates and demands.  And I think it might raise the morale of the other dwarves :)

If you kill them all, and all of their friends, and the hammerer just to be sure, then the only downside would be new nobles immigrating I guess. Except you kill everybody, but that's a hell of a job.

So, if I kill the duke then I'll get a new duke?  Would this effect me getting the incoming king?

Reading Lord of the Rings made me believe that dwarven nobles were mighty warriors.  How wrong I was...

Eh I'd try to get the king first before trying to get nicer dukes and stuff but meh.

Killing nobles won't get you a king, as far as I know. And no, you nobles are lazy bureaucrats who whine until you dispose of them. Your mighty warriors are mighty warriors, and you should treat them as your god-kings.

Easy way to do it is to build a support, a couple floors above it and a lever under the floor. Rig it to the support and set it so only the noble can pull it

Im not sure about this version but in earlier versions killing nobles had a detrimental effect on your immigration.  I guess if the bosses have a funny habit of being encased in molten rock the rank and file are smart enough to avoid the place.  Cripple your hammerer instead, its more of a challange to wing the bastard properly (lost limb is best) than kill them outright.  And make the bloke with the busted spine your sherriff.

Well now killing anyone in general has detrimental effects on your immigration.

Nobles much than normal dwarves apparently.  Although if you have 100+ dwarves anyway and the noble is having the legs broken on 3 dwarves a year the mathematics are probably in favour of a special lever in the nobles rooms.

They aren't. i've lost all immigration to killing the hammerer, the baron, and the baron consort.

You just got unlucky in your world gen.

My last Queen was an accomplished macedwarf, and the Queen Consort an ambusher, hunter, and wrestler.

I once went to a Dwarf Site and the Dwarf King who was naked... MURDERED MY ADVENTURER!!!

It was a SUPER Legendary Dwarf King and I didn't expect him to be so absolutely powerful... or to kill me naked...

To bad she wasn't a spear dwarf. Then her high heels could have struck fear into the hearts of goblins everywhere.

Maybe having dwarven nobility be warriors (think hammerer without hammering) would make them less hated.
