Finding a place to embark
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:19:36 am »

I enabled all the features in the init so it shows me everything. Cheating, yes. But oh well.

Now I wanna know what do all these mean? How can I avoid certain stuff like chasms? Or find underground rivers?

When you're embarking, there's an option for 'site finder' ('f', I believe).  On that screen, you can yes/no/don't care to the features, and then press enter, and it'll find you the first suitable site, or the site with those most matches.

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

I didn't mean that. I wanted to know what did all the new symbols mean. I enabled them in the init so nothing is obscured and I don't have to use the exhausting search feature.

# = Chasm

O = Pit

Blue double tildes in mountain areas are cave rivers. Singles are underground pools. Same symbols go for magma pipes/pools, respectively.

You WANT to AVOID chasms?

I get a little tingle in my pants if my embark area manages to actually have a chasm.

And the Pound symbol is hidden fun stuff.

Or try FUBAR! The best chocolate bar ever!
And you can't eat them, either, sadly. Even though it'd make sieges so much more fun; dwarves lining the walls, drooling and carrying sharp knives and forks, ready for the upcoming meals.
