Interesting choices
« on: December 06, 2008, 12:14:08 am »

So I was digging around in various saved worlds I had put in my backup folder and then forgot about.  One of them, it turns out, has a dwarven civilization where the dwarf city has been ruined and the dwarven civ consists of one dark fortress where the population is four goblins - the local goblin leader, the goblin queen (now the leader of the dwarven civ), the goblin diplomat, the goblin outpost liason.

That's the entire population of this civ.

And as it's a dark fortress, I can build a new fortress right on top of it.

I am torn.  Collapse the towers, thus assassinating my civ's entire ruling class, just to see what happens?  (Do my dwarves then get promoted into the empty positions?  When a caravan arrives, does my newly promoted Outpost Liason negotiate with himself?)  Or, play it out for a while, and then what?  When a caravan arrives does the outpost liason teleport from his tower abode to the caravan and pretend he was with them all along, or does he get cloned, or what?

I have the world backed up, so I'll probably do both.  And other things too, as I think of them.

Well, if you kill your dwarven civ, you won't get a caravan UNLESS there are other civilizations around.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

I'd be curious that if you built somewhere else and you had the conditions for the "queen" would she come?

huh I guess you ll get no dwarven caravan if that's your mountain home so to speak. Just like you don't get caravans from the human civ if you embark in their city. Although I havn't seen what happens if its the dwarven caravan.

As far as killing the king and whatnot I doubt your dwarves will replace them as they are treated as another civ even though they are "dwarven" so to speak.

I'm curious as to what would happen if the king was to immigrate to your fortress if that's possible at all.

oh yeah, the queen/king can and will immigrate if you discover adamantine...!
I'm the guy that has a tame titan queen running arround my current fort, killing small animals and tentacle demons at will! it rocks, but i can't give her jobs (except 'hunt') and she dosn't automaticly attack hostiles...

Well, that one's easy. Lock her in an atrium that your enemies have to go through.

You must do it. For science.

And by "it" I mean make backup saves and play out every possibility. And post about it. And post the seeds.
