Shrines
« on: December 09, 2008, 10:54:28 am »

I was designing a dungeon for a D&D game using DF lately and I figured that it's missing one thing - shrines! Every dungeon has to have a shrine dedicated to some god and stuff. DF should have a feature where dwarves are happier with shrines, or some other things dedicated to their god.

Perhaps making an altar to a certain god would prevent unhappy thoughts, and a statue dedicated to that god would make them happy. Doesn't need an advanced effect. Though, further along development, dwarves could sacrifice things to their gods and stuff like that.

You could possibly designate a room, or an area, as a religious zone (much the same as a statue garden).

Dwarves would then turn tables present therein into altars to their gods, scrawl crazy stuff on the floor (of course using makeshift inks from there recently deceased pets) and other such madness.

The more pious dwarves would go there in preference to dining rooms etc ....

maybe even a faction of dwarves worshipping the god of rivers could take over a room and start filling it with buckets from the local water source.

Religion overhauls are planned later on.

As an added bonus the very religious dwarves could go to the shrine instead of the leader when they're unhappy. At least some dwarves wouldn't follow the leader around all the time that way.

Somehow, that fills me more with dread than anticipation.  It's like being told that someone's exhuming your favorite grandparent and they're going to try to make her into a cyborg stripper.

I suppose you could make the priest/cleric the head of the community. Give him a high consoler/pacifier and shut down his non-religious work options and redesignate some of the noble stuff. Then set a temple as a meeting area, throw in a few statues and an altar (table), maybe some chairs in rows or whatever floats you (drawbridge over magma pit) and let him hang out all day talking to people.

End the slaughter of dorf kittens!
No self respecting beard wants to wear his pet as clothing! Dorfs need population control for pets and bad thoughts from products made from the animals they choose to bond with.
