Changing weapon materials?

Well, I've been playing DF casually for a while, and just picked up Kobold Kamp, and realized that the Kobolds really should have spears and slings; they're only the simplest weapons ever used, and the first is common to every culture (and the second to ALMOST every culture).

So I read up on weapon modding but I've hit a few snags I haven't found answers to you in the wiki or by searching.

1. How do you set what materials are needed to make the weapon? For the spear I was considering wood/rock and leather for the sling, but I don't see any tokens for setting this.

2. How do you choose which workshop these items get added to? Or is that something I'd have to do some .exe-diving to accomplish?

1. You can't. This makes a lot of people sad, but it's true.

2. They're always in the metalsmith's forge, unless you start messing about with smelter-reactions.

Reactions might actually do what you want, come to think of it, but it's a bit of a hack.

".exe-diving" is not recommended. But you could try. There's some partial guides here and there on the wiki.

1. Currently, the only materials that are up for grabs are metal and sharp rock/wood (set a weapon to have the [CAN_STONE] token)

2. Currently there are a couple of places you can add weapons, these are:
      a. The forge, this is the default area for all metal weapons
      b. If a weapon is given a [RANGED:X:X] tag, they can be created at the bowyer's workshop
      c. If a weapon has the [CAN_STONE] tag, they can be created at a craftsdwarf's workshop
      d. The smelter, through use of reactions
Though in the next release we have been told that we will have more control of workshops in the raws
