So... what... abandon, reclaim so that the original are still there. Abandon a second time which leaves the original there during adventure mode?

Any worldgen created site should work.  I didn't test it with one that had been razed, but I know the dwarves will stay alive if you overlay a human town.  Doing it on a human town screws up the human shop keepers though.  I also never tested using anything other then a 3x3 embark area that is exactly overlaying the worldgen site.

All my tests in abandoning in other places showed numerous dwarves dying of starvation at the exact abandon moment, even with 10k edible food in the fort.  I really think it has to be on one of the worldgen sites.

I wasn't anywhere near a dwarven civ. But yes, all of my dwarves were alive... I even did a savescum and checked the dwarves I killed and their professions: all the same.
