What the HECK man!
« on: November 16, 2008, 12:46:17 am »

So i was goin along, building my fort, and all of a sudden one of my dwarfs gets possessed. i'm thinking "aww man, why can't i get a cool mood? oh well, atleast i'm getting an artifact out of it".

the dwarf in question was a grand master miner, so i know he's probably gonna drop into of my craftsdwarf shops or the mason shop. he doesn't drop into either, he just hangs out inside his bedroom.

i check the wiki to make sure i got it right (http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Mood) and i do. so i think "well, maybe the wiki is wrong" and so i get to making every single type of shop that i don't have, and see if he'll drop into any of them.

i make every single damn shop... EVERY SINGLE ONE... even the normal forges and magma forges, and he won't come out of his room, he is determined to let the unknown forces take his sanity away.

how do i get my damn dorf to stop being so damn stubborn? or is this an odd glitch of some sort?

Try downloading Dwarf Companion and check his 'Mood' profile. It should tell you what type of item he wants to make.

It's always a Jeweler's Workshop for me, because I never build them normally.

Also, you can manufacture vomit at a smelter.  Subsequently removing the smelter spews vomit over a surprising area.

are you sure he's not locked in, and that the craft/masons shops are accessible, non forbidden etc?

Magma is overrated.

Another thing to check - dwarves DO care whether a workshop is magma powered or not for moods. So if you have magma glass furnaces but no normal glass furnaces that could cause problems, etc.

This is why I make all my workshops and buildings out of blocks! n_n

In the end, did he manage to make something awesome from the mood?  ???

no, one of his requested ingredients was shell, the ONLY mood ingredient i didn't have, and so he went stark raving mad.

Shell tends to be a bitch for mood provisions. Especially once you've fished out the local turtle population.

I have half a dozen shells and bones that I keep forbidden all the time just in case.  It saved me just recently, when a moody dwarf demanded bones and I had just finished converting the latest siege into bolts and decorations.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.
