Temperature and Time
« on: November 14, 2008, 04:37:18 pm »

How much does the temperature (in DF degrees) vary from day to night? Does the temperature remain constant underground?

For all intents and purposes, temprature is constant underground.

Not quite sure on other temprature drops.

I ask because I was thinking of modding in vampires that burn to death when outside during the day. I would set the HEATDAM_POINT to their biome's daytime temperature.

the problem with that is that every single one of them on a map during daytime would die, making the mod pointless.

They'd be great for adventure mode, but Fortress mode seems to use daytime temperatures. I even think it would work for a civ, just so long as you don't visit a Vampire Dark Fortress in the daytime. If that was the case, all the outside Vampires would combust, though the ones inside would be ok.

What exactly does the [NOCTURNAL] tag do? (I should have put this in modding.)

I think it has some determination on what creatures appear when you're ambushed depending on the time of day.
