I see plenty of items coming in off caravans that are decorated with stones and wood.
Wood artifacts, too, and IIRC stone ones the same applies.
We can't, however, duplicate this behavior without a mood.
I could care less if it actually makes the items worth any much more, but I want to be able to have images of my champions and such in wood/stone...
