No they didn't, Ultramarines are the ones most likley to adhere to the rules, since it was their primarch who made the rules to begin with. They just got carved up into a bajillion near-identical chapters.

I used to read lots of warhammer fluff before critical hit was shut down by GW's legal division. Very annoying, the backstory turned out to be all that was keeping me interested in the hobby, and I'll be dammed if I'm paying $40 AU to buy a magazine with a few lines of story in it. So now I warhammer no more.

I can't imagine Warhammering anyway.  Crazy expensive for a hobby.

Reduced turtling is something different then making deployables useless. Frontal infantry charges into heavy machineguns shouldn't be a winning tactic.

Of course, we're talking about a world where an handful of mutant, cyborg warrior monks can take on thousands upon thousands of regular troops and emerge victorious through faith alone.

More plot armor then faith and they are the ones on the machinegun side and they outnumber the attackers 4:1. It doesm't work like that in TT. If 4 HB dev squads in cover open fire on a single squad of ASM(assuming both of them to be completely tooled up), the devs win.

The devastators would win in this game in that situation as well... Also, why are you so worked up about it? It was even worse in Dawn of War 1, which was really drastically different from the tabletop game and Space Marines would get owned by everything and anything anyway.

If you want to play the tabletop game, go ahead. I don't think anyone other than you here really cares as much about such things.
