To live up to my settlements' name, Romanceworks, I created a hanging-gardens type of structure looking like multi-colored flowers that protrude from the cliff face above my magma vent. This was the good (yet very un-dwarfish) idea.

The bad idea was to pump water into the biggest one through it's stem, that then cascades down upon the lower flowers and into the magma pipe. This does create the elusive "magma mist", combined with steam and dust clouds (yes all three can exist in the same square) and the obsidian thus created instantly sinks through the vent to the center of the earth, much to the chagrin of the imps and magmamen who are now constantly pelted with a rain of hard obsidian blocks.

Unplanned was the mention of "A section of the cavern has collapsed", including zoom and pause, twice every second. Advice for anyone planning on making such a device: Don't.

I just wish there was an option to turn off pausing of the game for important events like that.

better yet, a type of zone that disables a type of announcment in an area designated. allowing for easy magma vent mining around in a circle, YET I KNOW THE PRESENCE OF WARM STONE IS HERE let me do it anyway.

or maybe obsidian created directly over magma vent tiles should not give off said message, I don't think it would be too hard to code.

It'd eventually screw up, anyway. The falling obsidian tiles would eventually stack to the top, and then the water falling on them would go horizontally to create obsidian, which would NOT fall due to being supported by the column.

Run it until you get that column, then build out over the magma vent and build some catching towers. You'll get to keep your mist.

The obsidian is crushed to oblivion when it reaches the bottom, or has sunk chasm-y into that same oblivion. No speck of dust remains, so building a tower with it doesn't work.

Worst however is you cannot build downwards. Building hanging structures without being able to build a stair down, and then an upstair below limits your options. Building huge scaffolds is just a pain.

Almost done, getting the king here too and then on to something more terrifying, the serene location is boring me (although I did get a Titan to visit me, for which one is unprepared in a serene environment).

After digging into an aquifer at the top of a vent to form an obsidian cap over the top i got loads of these messages...very annoying.
