I kind of assumed that it would be a big deal to them when the stuff is made from them. I know how humans feel about it ("Ahh, fuck it, it's pretty!"), but elves.. Had to try though, and it gave me a laugh

Those are imported elf bone amulets, presumably from a goblin squad commander with world-gen scalps?  Perhaps the fact that they're generated in world gen exempts them from the elves' bone ban.

I've been a little annoyed by the bone/leather amulets/earrings/crowns thing, because I have to clean up hundreds of them after every seige, and they're worth nothing anyway.  I had one guy who was wearing *thirteen pages* of trophy jewellery.  If they're acceptable for elf trading, that seems a great way to get rid of them.  I mean, it's that or chuck them in lava.

In .40d, the only thing I've seen the elves get annoyed by is wood.  Not bone, not leather, not slaughtering animals in the butchery right next to the trade depot...just the fact that I happen to have dumped all those things into a wooden bin for convenience.
