This is why I really want the combat messages to be available in fortress mode. You could see exactly what happened. Probably even get a cheap laugh off it. Of course you would might want it off in sieges. That could spam your announcements to death.

Did the hammerer have a grudge against the wrestler? Maybe he just didn't want to stop pummeling him.

The spear reference reminds me of Civ 2...

Where spearmen have an unusual gift at defeating tanks.  And settlers can somehow deflect battleship bombardments back at the ship to sink it.

This is why I'm glad DF is only an ASCII game.  Seeing it in full graphical glory would probably have an effect akin to having tea with Cthulhu.
