Gypsum as fertiliser
« on: October 21, 2008, 12:33:19 am »

I wikied Gypsum and found that it can be used as a fertiliser.

May be a bit of a wait but it would be an add to the realisme, and take advantage of gypsum rich sectors, if you could proccess it into fertiliser in-game.

It almost seems like a 'fertilizer' tag is warranted..

Trees should randomly die every now and then, now I think about it. These and animal corpses should fertilize the ground. What's everyone think about dwarven compost bins? :P

Really, I think farming in general could afford to be better. Right now it's a simplistic food factory. The soils should all have an overall quality rating, and plants that grow better in certain soils than others could have a soil quality modifier to reflect this. There could be yet another quality modifier which is based on how moist the soil is and how much fertilizer is in it. If the soil isn't fertilized for a very long time and there's plants growing in it this modifier will continue to subtract from the soil's quality until it's completely useless for farming.
