[40d] Items Sticking to the Floor
« on: October 18, 2008, 01:51:40 am »

I have a really weird bug: items are sticking to the floor.

They can't be moved.  They can't be melted in smelters (I just get "no items marked for melting" even though the stuck item is marked.)  They fail a build ("item obstructing building site".)  They can't be dumped.  You can't use them as building materials -- they don't appear on the list of available materials to build with, even if you build right on top of a stuck item.

The only way I've found so far to move an item stuck to the floor is to channel the floor.

I'm thinking the game might be getting confused and treating the items as if they were owned when they're not.  One item was a pick owned by a miner who died.  The other two items were plain old obsidian stones, never owned by anyone.  Still, the way the game is acting is consistent with the items being owned, except they don't show as owned by anyone and I've never seen anyone own a rock.

I have the same problem in one of my forts... have you reclaimed at all?

This also happens to materials of suspended constructions.

I had two doors hanging out unmovable in my corridor for the longest time until I figured out their build order elsewhere was suspended.

Your idea sounds plausible for rocks, but what constructions besides weapon traps would use a copper pick?  (I haven't built any weapon traps as of yet.)

P.S.  I have a save.

I hate to even ask this, but are they forbidden?  I'm 99% you already know to check for that but just making sure.

No, they're not forbidden.  In fact I also tried forbidding, running a few frames, then unforbidding.  No dice.

I can take a look at it if you'd like, though I've developed a significant backlog, so it'll be a while.  I'll need the region folder in some kind of zip/rar/7z, and any new objects that were added to the raw folder.  If it's less than 20 megs, you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com.  You can also try The Dwarf Fortress File Depot which has a special section for bugged saves.

If I'm running an unmodded DF will there be anything in the raw folder you need, or can I just send you the region?

If there are no mods, I just need the region folder that's within data/save.
