Making a Magma Cap
« on: October 22, 2008, 01:17:47 am »

So say I have a Magma Pipe which reaches all the way to the surface. When water comes into contact with magma it makes an obsidian wall tile, right? So theoretically, could I drop water onto the magma and make an obsidian cap over the top? I suppose that if I dropped water onto the middle, the wall tile would just sink, but what if I dropped water on every exposed magma tile simultaneously? Then the obsidian tiles would all appear at the same time and the tiles on the sides would support the ones in the middle.
Man, I don't even know if it's worth it. But would it work?

If you just dump water starting at the edge it will eventually create a perfectly fine cap out of obsidian floor tiles.

Playing a cheesemaker in an average Fortress 'round here would be. Freaking. Terrifying.

Skid's right. Just pour water on it starting at the top of the crater, with walls to keep it reined in if you don't have natural ones.
