Quick question, hopefully quick answers.
« on: October 30, 2008, 07:02:35 pm »

Scenario: Dwarf stuck in a slowly filling (fortification fed) chamber that is about 11x11, all of it has atleast 2 deep water.  He's thirsty, and slowly getting worse as all rescue attempts prove futile.

Now, if I were to quickly adjust the raws for [NO_DRINK] and [AMPHIBIOUS], do I need to gen meself a new world, or can I make those go into effect and take them out once Mr. Dwarfy is saved? I really need to keep him due to the equipment he has, and the fact that he has my fortress only pick. No bars, no anvil. If he dies, we are toast. So, help please?

I think that will work without needing a new world.  You can always copy the save file and to somewhere safe, so you can try again if it doesn't work.

How'd he get stuck in there?

I had not paid enough attention, so I ended up building a wooden floor over the ramp. Actually, that probably saved him from the skeletal giant eagle that killed everyone else, but I need him to be able to get out of there and into the little hovel that he dug earlier, which has a couple of traps at the entrance.

Yeah, that modding will work (I've done it before).

Those traps won't that eagle off forever though.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.

The only time that you have to gen a new world is when you completely add or remove an entire object, creature, or entity. The only real exceptions to this are some of the things such as clothing which are set at world generation and some of the things in the init file.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Also, almost everything in the entity file requires a new world.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Not really, you can do the Hermit challenge.

Or, since I removed alchohol dependancy from my dwarves, he can finish that gat dam well and start doing some farming.

If you are going to go that far, go a little farther. Mod your dwarf into some sort of superbeing capable of butchering everything on the map. Hell, take a page from the Spirit of Fire and give him an obscenely high body temperature. He could burn his way out and set fire to the forests in his mad rampage against the beasts that slew his comrads.

It would be as if Armok himself entered your dwarf's body. He is... The Chosen One.
