Wagons ran over kobold?
« on: October 09, 2008, 11:11:22 pm »

Has anyone seen it before or anything? A kobold showed up right in front of my trade wagons and was simply ignored, as they went over they flashed purple and after the third one, he was dead. o.0

You are complaining about this?

Are you sure one of the caravan guards didn't scrag him? Guards can be pretty badass.

There's a chance here that we may just have a new form of deathtrap...ing.

Probably not.  But I can hope...

I had this happen to me too, not with just one kobold but with three of them, one right after the other. At first I thought it was the wagon mowing them over, but after seeing it again I realized what was happening or at least what seemed more likely. I think it is the merchants who 'drive' the wagon reacting in self-defense and wrestling with the kobolds. Since they are seemingly incapable of leaving their position on top of the wagon, their 'cornered' reaction kicks in like it does for most non-combatants and they pummel the ever loving crap out of the kobolds as they roll by.

This has been mentioned once or twice before, but is understandably rather rare.

happened to me.
the wagon DID attack, cos the merchant never flashed to show wrestling and he was unarmed.

By looking at the raws:

[OBJECT:CREATURE]

[CREATURE:EQUIPMENT_WAGON]
    [NAME:wagon:wagons:wagon]
    [TILE:'W'][COLOR:6:0:0]
    [EQUIPMENT_WAGON][COMMON_DOMESTIC]
    [NOT_BUTCHERABLE]
    [HAS_RACEGLOSS:WOOD]
    [ITEMCORPSE:WOOD:NO_SUBTYPE:WOOD:USE_RACEGLOSS]
    [NOSMELLYROT]
    [BODY:WAGON]
    [SIZE:12]
    [ALL_ACTIVE]
    [NO_GENDER]
    [MATERIAL:WOOD:USE_RACEGLOSS]
    [trADE_CAPACITY:15000]
    [MUNDANE]

You can see that a wagon cannot attack.

Nobody actually knows what [EQUIPMENT_WAGON] implies.

Well, I doubt that Toady One has secretly been testing his new siege engine - engine for upcoming battering rams and the like.. But you never know.
Testable with DC.
Teleport a kobold / goblin in front of a caravan, make him unconcious so he won't flee (exhaustion value 65 thousand something, check with a resting dwarf and copy paste the value.

EDIT: or wait until DC has the combat reports function working again. Would be easier.

I'm having this happen a lot in my current fort. The traders more often than not run into a group of kobolds on the way out and as more and more wagons runs over them they take varios amount of damage (usually dead after the third wagon or so). The guards seem to be far behind so I don't think they're involved.
