I've been regularly getting traders, but no immigrants. Go figure.

OFF: Pie, I hate your avatar. (In case someone finds this post later on when Pie has finally changed it or the forums have crumbled to dust, it's an assembly line carrying in a living human head, feeding it something, having a hand tear off the face, a blade lance the skull, a spoon take out some of the brain and feeding it... to the next human head. In an endless loop.)

ON: I think I'd have abandoned that fortress long ago. Only woe is that it's not feasible in a roleplaying sense: why on earth would some dwarves abandon a safe, cozy, luxurious fortress and risk wandering through terrifying woods?
...then again... they're dwarves.

I love that avatar. Saving in the case that it gets deleted or changed.

Six of my seven dwarfs are female.  The other one is the expedition leader.

What's your fort's name, Vault 69?

I loathe Pie's Brainfarm avatar...

Anyhow... Make sure you have room that can have a party in it so there is plenty of time to talk such as a Statue garden.

How can you guys not like Pie's avatar? It's funny, it's slightly gory, it's cool. It has everything!

Anyway, yeah, do what Neonivek just said and build a statue garden.

I've also found open rooms attract immigrants, as long as i keep some rooms free and increase my wealth i always got more but when i stopped building rooms i dident have any for a while. I know moods are affected by expansion maybe immigrants are to so try to dig large swathes of land. I just use the embark editor an give myself 15 dwarves from the get go because its just so much easier and you can go a long long time without needing any immigrants.

If you want some fun you could always embark on an island with like 80 dwarves(think its possible) and all the nessary supplies- haha maybe the nobles will swim to you just to piss you off.

I consult a magic eight ball when I feel like abandoning.
If it says I should, the dwarfs go home. If it says I shouldn't, the dwarfs stay in the fortress. Sometimes I'll also ask "Should I flood the fort before I go?" or something like that as well.

I do it when, I failed at the plan.

If food = alot, good.
If booze = alot, good.
If dwarves =< 2 female and 2 male, good.

Hey, thanks for the tip. I don't like this sig either, but never thought about just ad-blocking it. It works great !

I just made a new world (several actually) and made other fortresses for a bit. Try some new ideas and places, then come back.
Tomesmiths, my tutorial fort, is still going after several years, no goblins but I come and go when I feel like it. It's home.

Just be careful if you use pumps. Pumped lava will travel up z levels.
