I like these rather a lot. Perhaps derivations on this theme, combined with the previous deliberations, would be fitting.

On another note, Untelligent's avataramadwarves are neato and all, but seem oddly stretched, especially on the right side.

I also like PTTG's smilies, though they don't really convey emotion. I'd also replace the "custom" graphics with actual in-game ones(regardless of whether they're smilies or bearded dudes).

I dunno, at the very least the down arrow represents a bad mood and the Z is pretty transparent too, same with !!.
