If I could guess, I'd say someone killed a demon or two, and the goblins are now ruled by good guys or something.

No, you went into a new age. Ages come and go during world gen, but the changing of an age happens very rarely. Usually every few hundred years. You managed to hit it so the age changed while you were playing. As far as I know, that's very, very rare.

Also, the goblins were probably a friendly civ that just happened to show up when they did.

It sounds to me like you have a really kickass fortress, with age-changing, goblin merchants, and HFS all at once.

Now all you need is a freezing tropical moist broadleaf forest.

Only a small forest but got every thing else.
So going to new age will change the goblins attacking to be friendly civ. And i was looking forward to the comeing seiges  >:( Heres hopeing to the elfs declareing war on me  ;D

On a side note my leader showed up and then died of old age a year latter

1. Age changing doesn't happen on a "When year x occurs, begin age y" basis anymore. Judging from what I've seen on the forums since the dynamic age names were implemented, I'm guessing the releasing of the HFS started the new age. It's not a coincidence.

2. And yeah, Goblins aren't always evil nowadays. I'm not really sure how they're able to trade, though, as they shouldn't have access to any pack or pull animals... In any case, I'm not really sure why the goblins suddenly decided they wanted to start peaceful relations with you.

3. I think you can get elves and humans to siege you if you piss them off enough. Siezing the caravan goods. That sort of thing. Not too sure about that one, but I've heard other people say they've done that.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

It's an easy fix, just start killing every merchant that shows up till you make a new enemy.

Hopefully, you get the Elves, the goblins, and the humans all together at once.

The resulting melee would be awesome to watch.

When you have multiple civs ambushing or sieging you at once, are they mutually hostile?  If they band together to stomp you into the dirt, you have to record the megasiege if and when it occurs.  Hell, record it anyway.  Watching three armies thrash one another would be pretty sweet.  Hell, throw some dwarves in and we almost have The Hobbit.

And make sure they fight next to the carp-infested river while the unicorns and giant eagles (can those two animals be found in the same site?) watch on.
