So I have this dwarf who had three of his limbs cut off and he survived for months before finally dying. I think that the reason for this is that the attack that cut off all of his limbs has the suck blood special attack. What I think that happened was that his limbs were cut off and the game said that it was sucking the blood out of the wound even after the limb was cut off. This meant that although the dwarf (he was a peasant by the way) was unconscious, over-exerted, and in extreme pain, he continued to survive for months before finally dying of thirst because he was not bleeding and therefore did not bleed to death quickly after having his limbs cut off.
