Crashing from adding plant dyes
« on: September 27, 2008, 10:19:38 pm »

I'm trying to add some new dye colours to my game.  I've added this to matgloss_plant.txt but it keeps crashing whenever I try and embark.  I can't figure out what's wrong, 'CERULEAN' exists in the descriptor_color_standard.txt. Any ideas?

[MATGLOSS_PLANT:MUSHROOM_CERULEAN_CAP]
[TILE:3][COLOR:3:3:1]
[NAME:cerulean cap][NAME_PLURAL:cerulean caps]
[GROWDUR:200][VALUE:2]
[MILL:cerulean dye:3:0:1]
[MILL_VALUE:25]
[MILL_DYE:CERULEAN]
[SEEDNAME:cerulean spore][SEED:3:0:1]
[GENPOWER:2]
[SPRING][SUMMER][AUTUMN][WINTER]
[FREQUENCY:100]
[CLUSTERSIZE:5]
[PREFSTRING:brilliant color]
[WET][DRY][BIOME:SUBTERRANEAN_WATER]

The short answer is: modding the plant files can cause a lot of crashes for some reason, particularly with dyes. I'm not really sure why; most of the mods I've made that have had modified plants have taken a lot of work to get right.

Does it only work when you embark around certain areas or does it always crash? Try on a river and not on a river in particular. I assume the plant appears in your embark items list?

Dunno what to tell you.

[COLOR:MIDNIGHT_BLUE]
   [NAME:midnight blue]
   [WORD:BLUE]
   [RGB:0:51:102]

[MATGLOSS_PLANT:MUSHROOM_CUP_DIMPLE]
[TILE:3][COLOR:1:0:1]
[NAME:dimple cup][NAME_PLURAL:dimple cups]
[GROWDUR:500][VALUE:2]
[MILL:dimple dye:1:0:1]
[MILL_VALUE:20]
[MILL_DYE:MIDNIGHT_BLUE]
[SEEDNAME:dimple cup spawn][SEED:5:0:1]
[GENPOWER:2]
[SPRING][SUMMER][AUTUMN][WINTER]
[FREQUENCY:100]
[CLUSTERSIZE:5]
[PREFSTRING:soothing color]
[WET][DRY][BIOME:SUBTERRANEAN_WATER]

Your stuff matches up right:

[COLOR:CERULEAN]
   [NAME:cerulean]
   [RGB:0:123:167]

Further experimentation has led me to believe that adding plant dyes is inherently unstable - I think something to do with the color word names must be hard-coded.  Adding plants in general seems to be unstable unfortunately.

I've added a plant with a dye without any problems. I think I've got an idea, too.

Try removing the files in your data/objects folder, then make a new world.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.
